GEAR UP – Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs

What is it?

GEAR UP is a Federal Department of Education program designed to increase the number of low-income students who graduate from high school and are prepared to enter and succeed in college or trade/tech school. Project Higher Learning is the name of the GEAR UP grant serving all the 9th graders at Eagle Rock and other LAUSD high schools within the local community. PHL students have been receiving these services since 7th grade: Counseling Services, Mentoring Program, Academic achievement through tutoring, College and Career Awareness through early college testing, visits to colleges and universities, and Parent Programs that include workshops and training sessions.
