Varsity Updates

The Eagle Rock Varsity baseball team will be playing in the Wooden Bats Tournament over spring break (4/15-24).  The team will play three games at Roybal High School, Bell High School, and the Baseball Acaademy on the Compton College campus.

The Eagles lost a pair of games to first place Marshall on 4/11 and 4/13. The April 11th game was played at Yosemite Park. Senior catcher John Sevilla hit a two-run homerun into the pool to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead.  But Marshall fought back to take a 6-5 lead in the top of the 6th inning. The Eagles retook the lead at 7-6 in the bottom half of thie inning, but the Barristers strung together several two-out hits in the top of the 7th and pulled away to a 12-7 win.

On Wednesday 4/13, the Eagles lost at Marshall 3-1.  The Barristers did  their damage in the first inning, scoring all three of their runs.  Sophomore lefthander Mitchell Williams settled down after that and limited the Barristers to three hits the rest of the game.  "He kept the ball down in the zone," said first year coach Alan Pandullo after the game.   "He was very efficient, and was able to keep the ball away from their hitters."

JV Updates

The JV baseball team is off to a 5-1 start in Northern Leaue play after splitting their two games with Marshall.  The Eagles won an extra inning contest against Marshall on 4/13 at Glassell Park.  Marshall tied the game at 5 in the bottom of the 6th inning, and had a chance to win it in the 7th, but sophomore righthander David Alvarez shut the door on the Barristers and the Eagles prevailed in extra innings.

On 4/13, the Eagles fell behind early 8-2 early but fought back before losing 9-6.   Alvarez again pitched well in relief, limiting the Barristers to one run over the last three inings  He has given up just one hit in his appearances this season.  Second baseman Raul Navarro swent 4-4 for the Eagles and scored three times, and right fielder Bryan Hernandez chipped in a two-run single.
