The girls' tennis team's dream run in 2011 came to an abrupt end when they lost in the City quarterfinal playoffs against the mighty Cleveland Cavaliers by the narrow margin of 4-3. Despite home crowd cheers in the background from the lighted football stadium, the Eagle girls fought hard into the darkness, even winning the last three matches; but the damage was done. The team can be happy with a record 12-1 season where they beat Marshall twice and were sole league champions for the first time in 15 years, at least. To top it off, they earned a #3 seeding in the top division of the city playoff tournament. The Lady Eagles were led all season by Captains Nicole Kim, Karissa Saluta, and Deborah Chen, along with seniors Megan Gin, Yanisa Chuenkasamekul, Sara Barambagan, and Jessica Pinlac. Rounding out the varsity line-up are Sheri Jong, Melissa Saluta, Paulina Morato, Rosette Perez, Kirsten Gin, and Veronica Olarve. The girls have a promising future as very few seniors graduate this year, and a few young prospects are already on the horizon. (E. Jacobson)
