The Eagle Rock girls water polo team opens its season with a game against El Camino Real high School on Mon, Nov.28 at 3:00 at Yosemite Park. The teams have split their past two meetings, and each of those have gone to double overtime. The Eagles have an ambitious non-league, which includes Birmingham, Cleveland and San Marino in addition to El Camino. "I tell the girls to be the best, you've got to play the best," said head coach Deb Devine.
The Eagle Rock boys’ water polo team concluded its season with an 11-9 loss to Van Nuys Highs School in a playoff game played on Mon., Oct. 31 at the Yosemite Park Pool. The Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 12-2, and were undefeated Eastern League champions. Senior Owen Miller scored 63 goals for the season and finished second on the all-time scoring list for the Eagles. Senior Chris Hogue scored 50. The Eagles will return sophomores Christian Doughty (who scored four of the Eagles' goals against Van Nuys), Kyle Dotson and Mario Aguirre next year, along with junior Alex Banuelos.

The Eagle Rock boys water polo will open the playoffs on Monday, Oct. 31 against an opponent to be determined. The match will be held at Yosemite Park and will begin at 3:00.
The Eagles won their final regular season match against Huntington Park 16-9 on Oct. 26 in at Yosemite Park. Senior point Owen Miller scored six goals, senior right front winger Christopher Hogue added five, and Christian Doughty had four to account for most of the Eagles scoring. Miller's goals pushed his career total to 60, tying him with Christian Gonzalez for third place on the all-time Eaglle Rock scoring list. Still ahead of Owen are James Doughty (Class of '111) with 69, and all-time leader Justin Arevalo (Class of '09) with 72. "If we go deep in the playoffs he's got a shot at [breaking] that," said Coach Deb Devine.
The Huntington Park game was played befoe a larger than usual crowd, that was largely the work of Owen. He convinced the student council leaders to attend the game and provide music. "We played harder," Owen acknowledged the day after the game. "We wanted to impress our friends and put on a good show. Having them play the music was pretty sweet.." Now he needs to persuade them to come to the playoff games.
