New Reading lists for summer 2010!
Honors English 10
Summer Reading 2010
The Language Arts Department at Eagle Rock High School requires summer reading for all honors students. This year you will be required to read literature chosen by the instructors to complement instruction during the school year. The assignment consists of 2 objective tests and 1 comic book/comic strip. In addition to the objective tests for books 1 and 2, your teacher may ask you to write an essay in which you demonstrate your knowledge of the literature. Read the material carefully, and be prepared for tests on novel and play for Task #1 during the first week of school in September.
TASK # 1: Read and be ready to take an objective test on:
-Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck
-The Old Man and the Sea by Earnest Hemmingway
TASK # 2: Comic Book/Comic Strip:
-Lord of the Flies by William Golding
After reading the novel, students will create a comic book or comic strip depicting the important scenes from the novel.
Requirements:
1) Opening panel/cover page must contain the title, author, comic creator (that's you); the cover or opening panel artwork must convey what you think the book is about. (For example, an antiwar novel might show a picture depicting the horrors of war, a love story might have two lovers holding hands, etc.)
2) 15 panel minimum, 5 1/2 inches X 8 1/2 inches (panels are the squares that contain the picture). Number each panel.
3) Each panel must have a brief one-sentence description of the scene. You may use direct quotes or paraphrases.
4) Each character depicted must be uniquely drawn and easily recognizable.
5) The panels must accurately reflect the actions and physical descriptions in the book. (If character A is taller than character B, then B better not be taller than A).
Total Panels: 16
