Level: (7, 8, 9, 10)
Course Title:  Painting 1A/B
Course Description:
The major emphasis of this course is to expand the student’s knowledge of the visual arts through painting.  The students will use a variety of media to explore concepts and techniques, from the academic and structured to the experimental and nontraditional.  This course provides opportunities for students to gain technical competence in observing, recording, and interpreting creatively their visual environment.  Painting 1-2 A/B is being offered through the Visual Arts Department of Eagle Rock High School. The major emphasis of this course is to provide a foundation of visual arts concepts.  The students will explore these concepts both intellectually and experientially.  During this period of learning the stress will be on the processof making art.  However, this instructor will also stress the importance of creating a final product as guided by the CA Visual Arts Standards.  Simultaneously, the students will study the principles and elements of design with each major project and also explore various specific painting techniques and media.

  • develop receptiveness to visual and performing art forms across time, place and cultures, and perceive the significance of these art forms as an integral part of life.
