Course Title: Spanish II
Course Description:
Spanish II students will begin to polish their skills in the BICS (Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills) i.e. discussing their daily routine, hobbies, discussing their childhood, emergencies In Spanish 2 students will continue to acquire new vocabulary, progress in their fluency and develop their written comprehension and expression.  The Spanish program at ERHS is fully aligned with the California Standards for Foreign Language Learning and the Language Learning Continuum.


Stage 1: Formulaic
Learners comprehend and produce (functions) learned words and
phrases (text-types) dealing with discrete elements of life (content) 
in highly predictable common daily settings (contexts/accuracy)

Stage II:  Created
Learners comprehend and produce (functions) sentences and strings of sentences (text-types) dealing with topics related to self, the immediate environment, survival and courtesy (content) in transactional and some informal settings (contexts/accuracy)

MYP Aims Addressed by this Course:
The aims of the teaching and study of modern foreign languages are to:

  • enable the student to use language(s) effectively as a means of practical communication, providing a sound base of communication skills necessary for future study, work and leisure
  • enable the student to understand the nature of language and the process of total language learning, which comprises the integration of linguistic, cultural and social components
  • enable the student to develop an appreciation of a variety of literary and non-literary texts
  • offer insight into the cultural characteristics of the communities where the language(s) is (are) spoken
  • encourage an awareness and understanding of the perspectives of people from other cultures
  • promote involvement with different communities, where relevant
  • provide access to varied sources of information
  • foster curiosity, a lifelong interest and enjoyment in language learning.
